Christmas Day checklist: what to restock first
If you’re in a rush, this quick checklist helps you buy smarter and avoid a second trip:
- Food first (same protein or closest match to avoid stomach upset)
- Litter (especially if your household has multiple cats)
- Chews (helpful during gatherings or a busy home)
- Wet food (great backup for picky eaters)
- A new toy (perfect for indoor energy on cold winter days)
Many shoppers also grab a “holiday backup item” just in case, such as an extra small bag of food or a spare litter box deodorizer.
Why shopping today is better than waiting
When pet supplies run out on Christmas Day, many people try to “make it work” with substitutes. But for pets, sudden changes can cause real issues.
Shopping today helps you avoid:
- Switching foods suddenly (which can lead to digestive upset)
- Feeding unsafe table scraps out of panic
- Litter box problems from running out of litter
- Stress from not having chews or enrichment during long indoor hours
Even a quick restock can keep your pet’s routine stable and your holiday smoother.
Last-minute Christmas gifts for pets (quick and easy)
Christmas Day is also a common time for last-minute pet gifts. If you want a simple gift that pets actually enjoy, go for:
- Long-lasting chews
- Soft holiday toys or durable rubber toys
- Training treats or lickable treats
- Interactive enrichment toys
These are easy to pick up quickly, and they keep pets entertained while everyone is relaxing at home.
