Italy

Italian cat food at Ashario Pets means recipes formulated and produced in Italy, and the collection is led by Farmina, the Italian maker behind the N&D-style Ancestral Grain and Pumpkin lines. Across 96 items you'll find dry food for cats and dogs spanning kitten, puppy, adult, neutered and size-specific formats, priced from $28.48 to $145.95 CAD.

What sets Italian pet food apart?

Italian brands in this collection build recipes around a named animal protein paired with a fruit or botanical, rather than long filler lists. Farmina's two main approaches are easy to tell apart: Ancestral Grain recipes include low-glycemic grains such as spelt and oats, while the Pumpkin line swaps the grain base for pumpkin. Choose Ancestral Grain if your pet does well on grains, and the Pumpkin line if you prefer a grain-free carbohydrate source.

Choosing dog food from Italy by size and life stage

Farmina splits its dog recipes by kibble size, which matters more than most owners expect. Small breeds get a Mini kibble, as in the Ancestral Grain Lamb & Blueberry Adult Mini dry dog food, while larger dogs are better served by Pumpkin Lamb & Blueberry Medium & Maxi dry dog food. Puppies have their own formulas, including a Pumpkin Lamb & Blueberry Mini Puppy recipe for small-breed pups.

Lamb or chicken?

Lamb and blueberry recipes are a practical starting point for dogs that have eaten a lot of chicken-based food, since rotating to a different protein gives you an alternative if a current diet stops suiting your dog. Chicken and pomegranate recipes dominate the cat side of the range.

Which Italian cat food brands and formulas to consider

For most adult cats, the Ancestral Grain Chicken & Pomegranate dry cat food is the straightforward pick. Spayed and neutered cats have dedicated Chicken & Pomegranate Neutered formulas in both the grain-inclusive and grain-free lines, and there is a Kitten version for cats under a year. Lamb & Blueberry dry cat food covers cats you'd rather keep off poultry.

If you're switching diets, transition over seven to ten days by mixing increasing amounts of the new food into the old. Not sure which line fits your pet? Our North York team can compare labels with you in person. Same-day pickup is available in North York, and we ship Canada-wide.
