The Zaytoon dog chew is a hand-finished olive wood chew made for dogs that like to gnaw, and it is the chew featured in this collection at Ashario Pets. Olive wood is naturally dense and low-splintering, which is why it is often chosen as an alternative to antlers and synthetic chews. Sizes in this range run roughly $7.99 to $29.99 CAD, depending on how large a piece your dog needs.

What should you look for in an olive wood dog chew?

Start with density and finish. A well-finished chew has no sharp edges or loose fibres, so your dog works at the surface gradually rather than snapping off pieces.

Then look at how the chew is sized. Olive wood is a hard chew, so the goal is a piece your dog can hold between the paws without fitting the whole thing into the mouth.

Which size suits your dog?

• Small breeds and light chewers: the extra small Zaytoon olive wood chew is the practical starting point for toy and small breeds.
• Medium dogs: step up a size so the chew cannot be carried off whole or swallowed.
• Large and determined chewers: choose the largest size available, and replace the chew once it wears down small enough to fit fully in the mouth.

How does olive wood compare to other chews?

Antlers and hard bones are very dense and unforgiving. Olive wood is tough but tends to fray at the surface rather than shatter, which is part of its appeal for dogs that chew hard but need something gentler on teeth.

Rubber and nylon chews are reusable but have no natural texture or scent. The Zaytoon chew gives dogs a natural material to work on, which suits owners who prefer minimally processed options.

Safe chewing basics

• Supervise every chewing session, especially the first few.
• Inspect the chew regularly and retire it when it splinters or gets small.
• Offer chewing time in short sessions rather than leaving the chew out all day.
• Rinse and air-dry between uses.
